CES 2024, the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, was a week-long showcase of the latest and greatest in technology. The event featured a variety of products and services, from gaming and entertainment to mobility and smart home. Here are some of the highlights from the event:
Gaming Smartphones and GPUs at CES 2024
Asus unveiled its ROG Phone 8 series, the next generation of gaming smartphones. The series consists of three models: the ROG Phone 8, the ROG Phone 8 Pro, and the ROG Phone 8 Ultimate. All three models are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the most advanced processor for mobile devices. The ROG Phone 8 series also boasts improved design and performance, such as thinner bezels, water and dust resistance, and lighter weight. The battery capacity, however, has been reduced from 6,000 mAh to 5,000 mAh.
NVIDIA also launched its new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER chip, the successor to the RTX 3080. The new chip offers a significant boost in gaming and generative AI performance, with 1.4 times faster gaming and 1.5 times faster video generation than the previous generation. The GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is priced at $999 and is compatible with the latest games and applications that support ray tracing and DLSS.
AI-Powered Cars and Celebrity Replicas at CES 2024
Volkswagen announced a new feature for its electric vehicles (EVs) that integrates ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, into the IDA voice assistant. The feature, which will be available in the second quarter of 2024, will enable users to have natural and engaging conversations with their cars. ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is a generative language model that can produce coherent and diverse responses based on the user’s input.
Another AI-powered innovation that made headlines at CES 2024 was India’s first official AI replica of a celebrity. Kamoto.ai, a Delhi-based startup, partnered with Bollywood actress Sunny Leone to create an AI replica that mimics her voice and personality. The AI replica, which is trained on Sunny’s personal data, offers users an interactive experience through chat or voice calls. The AI replica can also generate personalized content, such as videos and photos, for the users.
Innovative Collaborations and Closures at CES 2024
Samsung and Hyundai teamed up to create “Home-to-Car” and “Car-to-Home” services for all Kia and Hyundai vehicles. The services aim to bring the SmartThings platform, Samsung’s smart home ecosystem, to supported cars. This will allow users to control various aspects of their vehicle, such as climate, security, and entertainment, from their smart home devices. The services will also enable users to access their smart home devices, such as lights, cameras, and thermostats, from their car’s dashboard.
On the other hand, Artifact, an AI-powered news app created by Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, announced its closure. The app, which was launched in 2023, used machine learning to provide personalized news reading for users. However, the app faced market challenges and failed to attract enough users and investors. The app’s closure marks the end of Systrom and Krieger’s venture after leaving Instagram in 2018.
Other Highlights from CES 2024
CES 2024 also featured a number of other products and services that showcased the future of technology. Some of them are:
LG’s wireless transparent OLED TV has a 77-inch screen that is nearly invisible when turned off. The TV can switch between transparent and traditional black backgrounds, serving as a digital canvas with an Always-On-Display feature.
OpenAI’s GPT Store, a marketplace for personalized AI applications, is located within the ChatGPT chatbot. The store allows users to access and create customized AI applications, such as games, stories, and quizzes, using ChatGPT’s generative capabilities.
Apple’s AI revolution with iOS 18, an update that will introduce generative AI-based tools for iPhones. The update, which will be unveiled at WWDC 2024, will include features such as auto-summarization, auto-complete for apps, and AI integration into Apple Music. Apple’s proprietary Large Language Model (LLM) named Ajax will play a pivotal role in this AI integration.
Motorola’s Moto G34 5G, is a budget smartphone that features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC, a 6.5-inch HD+ IPS display, dual-camera setup, and a 5,000 mAh battery. The smartphone runs on Android 14 OS based on Motorola’s My UX, promising 1 year of OS upgrades and 3 years of security upgrades.
China’s AirDrop surveillance breakthrough, a method that can detect individuals using Apple’s AirDrop feature to send messages. The method, which is part of China’s efforts to eliminate unwanted content, can bypass iPhone encryption and identify users sharing content through AirDrop.
In conclusion, CES 2024 was a week of tech innovations and announcements that showcased the future of technology. The event featured a diverse array of products and services, from gaming and entertainment to mobility and smart home. As technology continues to evolve and improve, the future promises even more exciting developments in the tech landscape.
