Introduction
My name is Amir Mullagaliev I am a Seneca Polytechnic student, currently on Computer Programming & Analysis program(this is my 5th semester). I was born and raised in Russia, when I turned 17 decided to move to Canada because I received an invitation to play in one of Ontarian hockey academy, and I never planned to study in college and tie up my life in Canada.
How I decided to enter the college/Choose programmer's path
Fortunately or unfortunately, I didn't see a huge perspective of playing hockey, the only way to continue playing/do favourite thing is to move to EU, and play for the rest of my life for the bowl of the soup per month, as I turned 20 and junior hockey was getting to the end I had to make a choice, either I am chasing the dream or changing the perspective of my life and finishing my sport career. I've chosen the second path and started looking for the options that Canada provides. At first I thought that I would become a good engineer; however, while studying at high school in Bradford (it's 50km northern Toronto) I have taken a course called Java Programming, my cousin is a professor at one university and the game developer back in Russia, he helped me a lot with my homework what raised my interest in programming, so I decided to step up, call my parents and tell them that my life is about to pivot, just needed their agreement. They agreed and I applied to Seneca College.
How is it going?
During the first semester I had hard times combining hockey and college, for the reason, that my team had to play play-offs in Quebec, as I started in Winter Term. After the first semester I finished my career, and I felt that things at college are getting easier and harder at the same time, as we gain knowledge we understand better how much we still don't know, I was afraid.
As I mentioned in my first sentence, I'm in my fifth semester have some knowledge that I never applied to the real projects, but I feel confident that I'm on the right path.
P.S In that one term when I had to combine both hockey and school, we became Jr.A Champions :D
