Being a mother of two small children is undoubtedly a rewarding and fulfilling experience. However, it can also be challenging to find time for personal pursuits, such as learning a new programming language like JavaScript. In this post, I want to share my own journey of learning JavaScript while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood. I hope to inspire other mothers who are interested in coding and show them that it is possible to pursue their passion alongside raising a family.
Embracing the Chaos:
When you have two small children running around, your daily routine can feel like controlled chaos. Embrace the unpredictability and find moments within the chaos to dedicate to your learning journey. Be flexible and adapt your schedule to accommodate your children's needs while carving out dedicated time for coding.Start with Small Steps:
As a mother with limited time, it's essential to start small. Break down your learning goals into manageable tasks that can be completed in shorter bursts of time. Focus on understanding the fundamentals of JavaScript, such as variables, functions, and loops. Online tutorials, coding exercises, and interactive platforms can be excellent resources for bite-sized learning sessions.Create a Supportive Environment:
Building a supportive environment is crucial for success. Communicate with your partner, family, or friends about your goals and the importance of dedicating time to learning JavaScript. Seek their understanding and support in sharing childcare responsibilities, giving you the time you need to focus on your studies. Consider joining online coding communities or local meetups to connect with other programmers who can provide guidance and encouragement.Make the Most of Naptime:
Naptime can be a treasure trove of uninterrupted learning time. Instead of using that time for chores or relaxation, allocate a portion of it to JavaScript. Whether it's reading a coding book, watching educational videos, or practicing coding exercises, naptime can be a productive window for concentrated learning.Involve Your Children:
Engaging your children in your coding journey can be a fun and educational experience for both you and them. Encourage their curiosity by explaining simple coding concepts to them. There are numerous coding resources designed for kids that can help you introduce programming concepts in a playful manner. Who knows, you might inspire the next generation of coders while spending quality time with your little ones.Prioritize Self-Care:
Taking care of yourself is vital for maintaining balance and motivation. Remember to prioritize self-care activities that help you recharge and reduce stress. Whether it's going for a walk, reading a book, or pursuing a hobby, make time for yourself. By nurturing your well-being, you'll be better equipped to handle the demands of motherhood and your JavaScript learning journey.Set Realistic Expectations:
It's crucial to set realistic expectations for yourself. Understand that progress might be slower than you initially anticipated, and that's perfectly okay. Celebrate small victories along the way and don't be too hard on yourself. Consistency is key, even if you can only dedicate a few hours a week to learning JavaScript.
Conclusion:
Being a mother of two small children does not mean you have to put your dreams on hold. By embracing the challenges and finding creative ways to incorporate JavaScript learning into your daily routine, you can continue your journey of personal growth and skill development. Every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to your goals.
