My PRO workspace 👨‍💻

Here I present you my desktop setup for web development, screencast recording, mentoring and blogging.

MacBook Pro

Use it at my full-time job only (Full-Stack Ruby on Rails development).

Here are the specs.

MacBook Pro

Mac Mini

Only for screencasts, blogging and mentoring.

And the specs.

Mac Mini

Magic Keyboard

Not only feels great, it works perfectly.

Magic Keyboard

Magic Mouse

Well, I don't like this one too much because it feels odd in my hands. I will like to get the Magic Trackpad in the future.

Magic Mouse

iPad

I mainly use it for reading tech books and watch programming video courses.

AirPods

AirPods

The battery live sucks but they work and feel very comfortable. They are also compatible with my Samsung Galaxy 10 plus.

AirPods

Skullcandy Ink'd Wireless

I use them as a backup, they are not so comfortable but it seems like the battery last a bit longer.

Shure BETA 87A Microphone

I record my voice with this amazing mic while recording screencasts, it was provided to me by Egghead.io. Thanks guys!

UPS APC BR1500G 1500 AV 865 W

This thing is amazing! It protects my devices, computers and anything that is connected to it. If there is a power outage it will give me some time to save my work. Highly recommended.

Monitor

I also have a generic TV (40") which I use a monitor for my Mac Mini. I know... it's a bit large but it works.

Lenovo Ideapad 320

Lastly my backup computer: It has Ubuntu installed just in case something happens with my other computers, this has saved my ass like 2 or 3 times, like when my old 2012 MacBook Pro died. I tend to put my backups computers in a safe place where nothing could potentially damage them. Really like this one as a backup computer for programming, specially for web dev... it's perfect.

Final thoughts

I feel very good by working with this setup, but I think I'm using too many Apple products and year after year these are getting very expensive and because of that I believe they are no longer an option for me.

If you can afford Apple, fine. But if you can't, no worries since there are many alternatives and some of these alternatives are way better than the Apple products.

Also, I will say that you don't need any of these devices but they will make your job a bit more easy to do, specially if you are a web developer.

I'm amazed to see how Microsoft is now adopting Linux. I think if Apple does not lower their prices, I will be for sure switching to Microsoft in the near future... Once my Apple devices become obsolete 😂
