Whenever I start a new rails project I try to use the latest versions available.
In this post I will try to explain what is necessary to create a new rails project with the latest versions available.

Requirements

Step 01: configure RVM

  • open a terminal and check rvm -v
  • compare version with the latest version
  • If you need to update, follow these steps
  • If you need to install, follow these steps

Step 02: configure RUBY

  • open a terminal and check ruby -v
  • compare version with the latest version
    • run these commands
      • rvm install RUBY_VERSION
      • rvm use RUBY_VERSION
      • rvm --default use RUBY_VERSION
      • note: RUBY_VERSION=x.x.x

Step 03: configure RAILS

  • check rails version
  • run these commands gem install rails -v x.x.x (note: RAILS_VERSION=x.x.x)

Step 03: install RAILS

  • run these commands rails new ExampleApp (note: RAILS_VERSION=x.x.x)
  • You can see all of the command line options that the Rails application generator accepts by running rails new --help.
  • more info

Step 04: Hello World

  • run these commands
    • `cd ExampleApp`
    • `./bin/dev`
  • open a browser window and navigate to http://localhost:3000

Finally we have installed a new rails project with the latest available versions. I hope it helps you
