Hacktoberfest is here again! 🎃 This year, the month-long virtual event to celebrate open source software is run by DigitalOcean and DEV.
In order to participate, you have to contribute to any open source projects during the month of October and open four pull requests to earn a limited edition T-shirt. Pull requests can be made in any GitHub-hosted repositories/projects, and you don’t necessarily need to contribute to code. There are other ways to participate. Here you have all the details.
If you’ve never contributed to open source before, this is a great moment to get started and get involved in a community. This guide is really useful to learn more about why and how to contribute to open source projects.
Contributing to Frontity
Frontity is an open source project and welcomes contributions in all forms. We are committed to embracing transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, as well as to helping each other learn and give back to the community as much as possible.
There are different ways to support this project and get involved. One of the most common is to contribute to code. However, in this post we're going to see other types of contributions that can help Frontity too.
Documentation
Documentation is very important and necessary to help developers understand how Frontity works and how to use it.
Although we are continuously working on it, we know the Frontity docs aren't quite up to the task yet. There's still work to do.
Any member of the community is welcome to suggest changes and improvements to the documentation, which can be found and easily edited on GitHub. Check out these contributing guidelines to learn how you can help improve the Frontity documentation.
Learning resources
Do you like to write? Teach and help others by writing guides, tutorials or case studies about how you're using Frontity. You can share them with the community here.
Before starting to write, feel free to share your ideas in the community forum to get feedback, and of course, ask if you need help. We or any member of the community will be happy to guide you on the next steps.
Community
The community forum is always busy! Answering other users' questions is one of the easiest ways to start contributing to Frontity.
If you have built something with the framework, please share it here so others can learn and see what can be accomplished with Frontity. Sometimes, an example is worth a thousand words. Also, consider submitting your Frontity theme or package to npm. Making it available to the community it's also a good way to contribute to extend and improve the framework.
Besides being the best place for getting support and sharing knowledge, the community forum is where you can keep track of the work done for the framework, suggest new features, and give feedback.
We encourage you to read through this Forum Guide to learn how the community forum is organized and how to get the most out of it.
Final thoughts
These are just some of the many ways you can contribute to Frontity. You can find more information on how to contribute in this page of the docs. If you don’t know where to start, feel free to reach out with any questions.
Remember that you can also support the project by starring it on GitHub! ✨
Happy contributing!
