Call Me Steve: The Inspiring Story of a Women in Tech - AWS Cloud Women & FCA Summer Event

Hello, DevOps and tech enthusiasts!

I had the incredible opportunity to attend the AWS Cloud Women - UK event at the Financial Conduct Authority, and I can't wait to share my experience with you all. This event was not only a celebration of women in tech but also a powerful platform for networking and knowledge-sharing in the cloud computing space. Here are some highlights from the event that left a lasting impression on me.

The Power of Data: Natasha McCann's Inspiring Speech

One of the standout moments of the event was Natasha McCann's thought-provoking speech on the power of data. She eloquently emphasized the critical role data plays in shaping the future of technology and AI. And do you know how much data there is in the world? Millions? Billions? No… 64 zettabytes!

Understanding the value of data is essential for any professional in the tech industry, and Natasha's insights served as a valuable reminder of that.

Gratitude to the Incredible Speakers

A big thank you to all the speakers who graced the stage and generously shared their knowledge and experiences. Each speaker brought a unique perspective to the table, and their dedication to their respective fields was truly infectious.

I had the pleasure of meeting some amazing individuals like Louise Sheridan, Gayathri Shyamsundar, Jessica Rusu, Martin Bishop, Holly Ellis, Faye Holt, Dr. Henrike Mueller, Ian Alderton, and others.

The Importance of In-Person Networking

One of the most rewarding aspects of this event was the opportunity to meet everyone in person. The power of networking should never be underestimated, and this event was a testament to the incredible connections that can be forged in such gatherings. Not to mention that I met more than 100 of amazing women!

Call me Steve

Have you ever heard of Stephanie Brook? What about Steve Shirley?

Well, they are one and the same person.

Stephanie Shirley chose to go by the name Steve Shirley while working in the tech industry, which was male-dominated at the time. Unfortunately, the biases of the era meant that her ideas received more serious consideration when presented under a male name. Her story is a poignant reminder of the challenges women faced and the strides we have made in breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes in the tech world.

Empowering Women in Tech

As a woman in tech, such events hold special significance for me. They serve as a platform to amplify the voices of women in the industry, foster a sense of community, and inspire the female tech professionals. The event showcased the remarkable achievements of women in tech and highlighted the strides we have made in breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes.

Final Thoughts

It was a truly remarkable experience. The insights gained, the connections made, and the inspiration received will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on my career in tech.

To all the women in tech out there, remember that your contributions are invaluable, and your presence in the industry is vital for its continued growth and innovation. Let's continue to support and uplift each other on this journey, breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings along the way.

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible, and I'm already looking forward to the next one!
