Cigro Dashboard, an e-commerce performance management software developed in-house by Cigro, collects and processes sales and advertising data from over 300 clients every day. With over 100 million data points per day from a variety of metrics, the amount of data being collected is growing rapidly.

In this article, we'll be interviewing Seunghoon Han, a backend developer who is growing with the Cigro Tech team, about the team's development culture, career growth, goals for the team, and what he would like to share with those who are interested in joining the Cigro Tech team.

Q. Seunghoon, how did you join the Cigro team?

I had the opportunity to use Cigro's products while working for companies in the e-commerce industry, and while using the products, I thought the value of Cigro's products was so good that I became a fan of Cigro and was spying on them every day. Then I had the opportunity to join Cigro, and it was a no-brainer. Once I joined, I fell even more in love with the development culture and mindset of the Cigro team.

Q. What kind of development culture and mindset did you fall in love with?

The team itself defines a good developer as someone who has a good combination of hard skills, soft skills, and business skills. To that end, the team is creating an environment where there are continuous growth opportunities not only in terms of developmental hard skills, but also in terms of soft skills and business skills, so we feel like we are exploding.

And by trying to do the A-Z on our own, and seeing the company explode through that, I have a lot of confidence that the company and I will continue to grow even faster than we are now.

Q. Can you explain Cigro's product a little more easily from a developer's perspective?

Cigro is an e-commerce sales performance and ad performance analytics dashboard solution company. It is a service that helps you know how much of a product you sold, how much advertising you ran to sell it better, and how much money you ended up with in the end, called contribution profit.

To automate this process, the Cigro Tech Team creates and operates functions that collect and process data from each e-commerce platform and provide insights through various visualizations.

Q. Please introduce the Cigro Tech Backend Team!

The Cigro Backend Team builds and maintains the services that provide the pipelines that reliably ingest and process large amounts of data (over 100 million per day) and the business logic to visualize it. Along the way, we manage, deploy, and monitor the infrastructure required to do so.

Initially, when I joined, the team consisted of four Korean members, including myself, but as the size of the system grew, the number of team members increased, and Vietnamese members joined the team, making it a global team.
Currently, we have a total of 9 members in the development team and 6 members in the backend team, and we are running together.

Q. I'd like to know more about the work of the Cigro Tech Backend Team.

Our Backend Team covers all areas that can be experienced on a server. In terms of areas, we have backend, data engineer, and devops. It's a great environment for growth because you get to experience a lot of different areas.

Our backend team is focused on data integrity and product stability, as the data provided by Cigro's products is a critical metric for decision-making for each of our customers.

Because of this, we often work behind the scenes and are often overlooked by other teams, but it's rewarding to know that internally we recognize that this is already a really important part of the product.

Q. Now that the Backend Team is a global team, have you encountered any communication challenges?

In the beginning, there were some communication issues because we were communicating remotely even when we were together.
To solve these problems, I traveled to the country to work together and systematize various work processes, and now we are a tight-knit team running together.

Q. Do you have a favorite moment from your time at Cigro?

There was a time when we were working on a project big enough to change the version of a Cigro product. There were a lot of technical and business challenges.

Technically, it was such a big project that we had to pretty much flip the infrastructure we were using. I have fond memories of getting all the development team members together, putting our heads together, using a blackboard to present our ideas, bouncing ideas off each other, and solving one problem after another.

I think that experience gave me the confidence to believe that there is no problem that a development team can't solve if they put their heads together.

Q. What would you like to see Cigro accomplish in the future?

In the future, we want to make Cigro a global service, not just in Korea, so our short-term goal is to build a system that can safely handle large amounts of traffic so that we don't get stuck when we step up as a global service.

In the long term, I would like to experience projects that are conceived and executed from A-Z across business domains.

Q. What kind of developers are on the Backend Team and how does the team work?

The Cigro Backend Team is made up of team members who are always thinking about continuous improvement of the product. Everyone is constantly thinking about problems and trying to solve them, validating their ideas, and working on the best solutions.

The company is also very supportive of the entire process. Thanks to this process, our individual growth has been very fast, and we are confident that the overall team's work is of high quality every time.

We are a team that is always trying, testing, and applying new things. We're not afraid to introduce anything that will help the product or solve a problem, and there's a culture of support and encouragement for every challenge.
Because of this, everyone is always open-minded and willing to try new things.

Q. What is the problem the Backend Team is currently trying to solve?

The existing Cigro products have disrupted the existing way of working in the domestic e-commerce domain with the keyword of business automation, and now we want to go global with the keyword of data democratization.

We want to create a world where everyone uses data to make judgments and decisions. We want to create a service where you can easily and quickly connect the data you want from anywhere and easily transform it to get insights.

However, as a service that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world, there is no reference, and there are many problems to overcome.
We are looking forward to future colleagues who will face and solve these problems together and make the leap to a global service!

Q. What kind of people do you think will enjoy working at Cigro and the Backend Team?

I think Cigro is the best environment for people who enjoy being challenged. If you enjoy making an impact by constantly challenging yourself to improve your product, I think you'll really enjoy working at Cigro.

The Backend Team is a great place to work if you are a strong advocate for your opinions and can communicate in an inclusive manner with other developers and non-technical staff.
Since our service is a specialized service that provides data, we collaborate with others and communicate with clients very frequently. Regardless of your role as a developer, if you have the ability to communicate and reach a good consensus through healthy discussions, I think you will enjoy your work even more.
