The Six Morning Habits of High Performers

S.A.V.E.R.S

Silence

I get my best ideas often when I am not explicitly thinking, for example, when I am in the shower or when I am laying on the bed at night trying to fall asleep.

With mediation, I essentially am able to trigger this free flow of ideas and unlock the genius within me without waiting for it to happen to me spontaneously.

The only way to fail at meditation is to judge myself, for thinking a thought, for feeling bored, for not being able to control my mind. The first day of meditation is supposed to be the worst day of meditation.

Affirmations

Not the ones where I lie to myself. If my goal is to be a happy person, a lying, feel-good affirmation would be to tell myself each day -

I am happy.

Instead I make these four positive affirmations-

  • affirm that I am committed to being happy
  • affirm why is it meaningful for me to be a happy person
  • affirm how do I plan on reaching this state of happiness
  • affirm when specifically during the day will I be doing those activities that would lead me to be a happier person

Visualisation

Visualising is day dreaming with a purpose. It helps me feel confident and keeps me motivated.

Exercise

Even 60 seconds of jumping jacks in the morning or a light stretch followed by a small 10 minute home workout can help lower stress levels and boost my spirit for the day.

Reading

Reading is my way to have access to everything that I want to know.

“You may have tangible wealth untold. Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold. Richer than I you can never be — I had a mother who read to me.”

Excerpt from one of my favourite poems about reading by Roald Dahl —

“So please, oh please, we beg, we pray,
Go throw your TV set away,
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall.”

Television by Roald Dahl

Scribing

Just a fancy term for writing or journaling. Making small journal entries daily like -

  • 3 things I am grateful for.
  • 3 things that I can do today to make it a good day: Of all the infinite things that I can do today and of the things on my to-do list, what are the three things that would make a difference to me.

“Be at peace with where you are, and take small steps daily to be where you want to be.”

Thanks for Reading!
